Puma Energy to open gas stations in Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Swiss oil company Puma Energy says it will open its first gas stations in Puerto Rico this month as it finalizes the takeover of Caribbean Petroleum Corp.

Retail sales manager Merle Pastrana says six existing stations will first reopen under Puma's brand in the northern coastal cities of San Juan and Carolina and the central town of Utuado.

He said Wednesday that Puma Energy could eventually have more than 140 gas stations once the $82 million Capeco sale is complete.

Capeco filed for bankruptcy protection last year after tanks at its fuel depot in San Juan exploded, forcing the evacuation of hundreds of people. The company sought to sell all its facilities, including six pipelines and a non–operational crude oil refinery.
